DigitalGlobe introduced Global Basemap at the Esri International User Conference this week in San Diego, California. DigitalGlobe’s Vice President of Product Management Aaron Crane talks more about the product, and its customers. What is Global Basemap? Based on the company’s comprehensive and constantly refreshed ImageLibrary, and powered by its Cloud Services platform, Global Basemap is a subscription-based service that gives customers fast and easy online access to existing and newly collected imagery so that they have the visual information needed to make critical decisions. How is it unique? This service gives customers immediate online review and download from the world’s largest, consistently refreshed image library. What are your customers’ chief concerns when they are reviewing a product like this? They want access to the relevant imagery they need, where, when and how they need it. With Global Basemap, DigitalGlobe continues to close the gap between the time that an image is collected and processed and the time that a government or business can use it to make more informed decisions. Thanks to the company’s expansive commercial satellite constellation, ground station network and superior technical infrastructure, images can be made available to Global Basemap customers on demand. Who is PEMEX, and why did they decide to subscribe to this service? Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) is the world’s 4th largest crude oil producer. They have been a customer of ours for several years, but have now signed to use Global Basemap to monitor and manage their complex business operations across Mexico. PEMEX is one of the few oil companies in the world to manage all facets of production, from exploration and extraction to refining, storage, distribution and sales. They operate nearly 60,000 kilometers of pipeline, seven refineries, 77 storage facilities and 15 gas processing plants throughout Mexico. Satellite imagery has become a vital source of information for them to help quickly and accurately assess what is truly happening across all of these locations. Thanks to Global Basemap, they will have on-demand access to constantly refreshed imagery and a ground truth basis on which to make integral business decisions. What’s next for DigitalGlobe? We’re excited about the future. We see more customers growing increasingly dependent on imagery that gives the most accurate insight about what’s changed, and where to focus. We offer not only “capacity,” or time on satellites, but also high value products, accessible on demand, that help governments and businesses solve problems.
