As of Saturday, the wildfires in Southern California have burned more than 175,000 acres, destroyed at least 790 structures and forced 200,000 people to evacuate from their homes. Gov. Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency in Ventura County, and state and federal agencies as well as hundreds of emergency personnel and firefighters are working to contain the fire and provide humanitarian assistance to local residents. To support those efforts, DigitalGlobe is making current satellite imagery of Ventura, California, and surrounding communities available through our Open Data Program. DigitalGlobe worked with Mapbox to update their fire tracking map with the latest imagery and will expand its coverage based on the fire’s activity. This map allows users to search addresses and zoom in on specific areas in or near the fire zones, and it includes the latest fire perimeters provided by first responders on the ground. The most current DigitalGlobe imagery has been uploaded to Mapbox here: https://www.mapbox.com/labs/norcal-fire-2017/ We will continue to update this blog post and our social media feeds as more data becomes available.
