This month marks the start of Maxar’s 2023 internship program. During the summer, Maxar will welcome 81 interns from more than 50 colleges and universities, embedding them across nearly every corner of the business—from spacecraft engineering and geospatial analysis to software engineering and corporate services.
This multi-week immersive experience provides undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on learning, mentorship and networking opportunities to build skills and gain valuable insight into careers in the aerospace and geospatial industries.
“Maxar’s internship program provides significant value for both our business and the students who participate,” said Ryan Carey, University Recruitment and Events Program Manager at Maxar. “The program connects our teams with up-and-coming talent and fresh perspective on our business while providing students with access to senior leaders and the chance to work on real programs shaping the future of the space and geospatial industries.”
Each intern is assigned a mentor and offered additional learning opportunities that include:
- An executive leadership speaker series, where interns can interact with members of Maxar’s Executive Leadership Team and other senior leaders
- Lunch-and-learn workshops on a variety of industry and business topics
- Career support resources, including access to Maxar’s Workday learning portal and training on resume writing, presentation skills, LinkedIn tips and more
- Social events, both hybrid and in-person, to facilitate networking
The program also serves as a talent development pipeline for Maxar. Maxar has hired many former interns, and the company often encourages well-performing interns to return for multiple summers. This year’s cohort, for example, has seven returning interns, including Taylor Johnson, a recent Liberty University graduate who is supporting Maxar’s Contracts team.
“Last year, it was evident to me that my co-workers loved their jobs. This created such a positive work environment. I came back hoping to work alongside my team past this internship,” Johnson said. “I benefited from my mentor working with me to establish goals and to help me apply my knowledge from the classroom in the real world. There’s so much value in this program because it serves as a steppingstone for my generation into the workforce. I am grateful to Maxar for preparing me to make a difference in the world.”
Over the course of the summer, Maxar will be profiling several interns on our social channels. Follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to read their stories.
