Responding to the Mexico earthquakes

Update 9/21/2017: Pre- and post-event data from the Mexico City and Southern Mexico earthquakes is available on the Open Data site. For the second time in two weeks, a powerful earthquake struck Mexico, collapsing buildings and killing hundreds. Yesterday’s 7.1-magnitude quake that struck 80 miles southeast of Mexico City was about 400 miles from the epicenter of the 8.1-magnitude quake that struck off the southern coast on September 8. DigitalGlobe has mobilized resources within our company to support immediate relief efforts following these major quakes. As part of our Open Data Program, DigitalGlobe will publicly release pre- and post-event imagery of the affected areas to support disaster response. We are currently tasking our satellites to capture imagery of the affected regions as part of our FirstLook crisis response program. Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) tasks have been set up for the Mexico quakes using DigitalGlobe pre-event imagery. Help map affected communities here: http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/3597#task/529
Once post-event satellite imagery is available, DigitalGlobe’s Tomnod crowdsourcing team will run a campaign to help with damage assessments at tomnod.com.
